  • Who can play? Any girl in Junior High or High School in the Columbia Area.  Columbia Area Women’s Lacrosse is a club team and is currently not affiliated with either high schools.  We have players from Hickman, Rock Bridge, Columbia Catholic and all the Jr. High Schools.  In recent years Women’s lacrosse has been approved by MSHSAA to be a school sanctioned sport.  We are encouraging Columbia Public Schools to pick it up.
  • How do I learn to Play? We’ll teach you.  Everyone starts out a novice.  All players have been there.
  • When and Where are the practices? Pre-season conditioning starts sometime before winter break.  These sessions are informal, non-manditory and occur at the ARC.  Actual practice with the coaches begin around the end of February from 3:30pm to 5:30pm and are located at Rock Quarry Park on Grindstone Parkway behind the house.
  • What does it cost? Club dues are $150.00 You are also required to buy your own uniform and gear.  You can get started for around $200.00 for equipment.  We also have fundraising events throughout the year that players and families are required to participate in.
  • What do my dues pay for? Your dues pay for your $35.00 membership to US Lacrosse (the national governing body of lacrosse), Coaches salaries, field usage and miscellaneous expenses.
  • What equipment do I need? You need a women’s stick, protective goggles, a mouth guard and cleats.  Gloves are optional, but highly recommended.  If you have braces you should ask your Orthodontist for a special mouth guard.
  • When and Where are the Games? Most of the games occur on Saturday from the end of March through the first of May.  There may be an occasional Friday evening game or a Sunday game.  Home games are held at Cosmo Park lacrosse fields.  Away games are in the St. Louis or Kansas City Areas.  We do carpool to the away games.
  • Will I get hurt? Women’s Lacrosse is a non-contact sport played with twelve players from each team.  The most common injuries with women’s lacrosse are bumps, scrapes and bruises.
  • What is lacrosse? Lacrosse is the oldest known sport in North America.  Most Native American tribes through Canada and the US played some form of Lacrosse.  It is known as the fastest sport on two feet.  It combines the elements of other popular sports.  The object of the game is to use a long handled racket, known as a lacrosse stick to catch, carry, and pass a solid rubber ball in an effort to score by ultimately hurling the ball into an opponents goal.  Defensively the object is to recover possession of the ball from the opposing team and prevent them from scoring through the use of stick checking and body positioning.
